No rest for the wicked

Hooray! Nick is done with the bar exam!

Crap! We still have to finish moving!

Which means my stitching will have to wait. The stash will be banished from the living room corner, where it has lived quite comfortably (and without bothering anyone at all) for a whole year. The current plan is to stash the stash in the small bedroom/study/office/thing. I don't know how that will work... what if I need to just bask in the glory of the grey mohair blend, but I also want to continue stitching on the Hat? I ask you, what then?

I don't have a digital camera just now (maybe for Christmas? Mom&Dad?), but I want to liven this place up a bit, so here are Miss Margaret (future recipient of the Hat and maid of honor at my future wedding) and myself. I'm on the left. Margaret's on the right. The sky is blue. The earth is round. I'm Capt. Obvious today.

Speaking of wicked, the Awesome Parents and one of the Awesome Sisters are going to see Wicked in Chicago on Sunday. What a sneaky trick for getting out of helping us move. You sneaky-type persons.

They're like ninjas, only Anglo and with greater affinity for musical theatre.

Interference

*Whap!* I'm sorry-- To those involved with the DeKalb Sit-n-Stitch, my apologies for being a total lazy git not being more clear about my absence from the meeting. Shame on me and a (brief) curse upon my stash. I assure you that the next meeting (August 8th at 6:30pm) will occur as scheduled, with Special Cameo Appearance by Yours Truly. As always, the meeting will happen at the DeKalb Public Library, in the basement.

I had a good excuse for missing the meeting, though. Nay, a phenomenal, really-excellent-person excuse: I drove Nick (my beloved) into Chicago so that he could take the Bar Exam. He called about 3 hours ago to say that the first six-hour day of testing went well (there are two days of six-hour testing. Yes, two.), and he sounded cheery. I don't know if I could sound cheery after taking a six-hour test that I knew was only half of the deal.

The Cohabitation Project is still in the "in progress" stage, and thus my crochet is suffering. It cries because it's not being worked on--all these projects: the hat for Margaret, the bag for me ... ah... someone else?, the baby blanket, they all weep for lack of attention. Yes, I'm a terrible crocheter, but a really good fiancee. Really. At the very least I aspire to be.

Speaking of Crochet, those in the DeKalb area who have not gotten into my crochet classes in the past, I'm developing another series of classes for the Fall (October & November). These classes will be open only to new students, so anyone who hasn't gotten in before, now is your chance! Stay tuned for more. Same Hook-On time, same Hook-On channel.

The Cohabitation Project

My beloved and I, while affianced, are not married. And yet we are moving in together. Living in sin. Not buying the cow because one can get the milk for free. And other euphemisms as well.

I think, by now, that this is not a sore point for most of our family. We're engaged, we've been together for 8 years (eight years!), and we're about as in love and committed as you can get. We did encounter some hand-wringing and near-crises in the past, but we've all grown up (those concerned family members included) and are mature and can handle such things with grace and poise. Mm-hmm.

Now we're moving his things into my current apartment which, when all is done, will be our new apartment. It's fun, sort of. He's much more organized than I, which is great; he's got good ideas about kitchen arrangement (love it!); he's the get-it-done type; he even respects the yarn stash (though he does cast anxious glances at it from across the room and hopes to hide it in the "office"). Fabulous. Everything is going smoothly so far, except for one thing:

I can't handle the book arrangement. It's perfectly logical and sound, but I don't like it. It's alphabetical by author. What's wrong with this situation, you may well ask. Well, though I am not a librarian, I work in a library and I am completely and wholeheartedly a genre kind of girl. I don't remember authors, really. Not with non-fiction (and that makes up the bulk of the book stash). Things must be done. Things will be done. When he comes home from Chicago, he may not recognize the living room. Ha! Genre will triumph!

At some point--soon, I hope--I will have pictures of my current crochet WIPs. Maybe. There are lots of them. I'm working on a cotton shopping bag, a cotton sun hat, a baby blanket, an afghan ... I've probably forgotten a few. Hundred.

But it's a healthy addiction, right?

Begin!

Well, here 'tis--the maiden post. I've been kicking this blog idea around for a few months now and decided to see what all the yelling is about.

Today seems like a good (?) day to post; my place of work was burgled last night. I work at a public library and (the word "burgled" is pretty darn hilarious to me right now) teach crochet classes here from time to time. Happily, the miscreants merely made off with small amounts of cash and left my teaching yarn stash behind. Oh, and they left the books and DVDs and other (potentially lucrative) library items alone. Stupid criminals.

Anyhow, this blog seems a likely place to keep track of crochet projects, classes and meetings. Hopefully it will not continue to chronicle the hijinks of small-time crooks. FYI for all those who hang with the DeKalb Crochet Club crew, or want to (and we welcome all kinds of stitchers): our next meeting is Monday, July 25th at the DeKalb Public Library at 6:30. Love it.
